memoir ideas

for my memoir i was contemplating doing it on what i learned from landscaping/manual labor opposed to working in retail or a job that doesn't require getting your hands dirty. also the idea of if you have to do harder work such as manual labor you can get paid more than an entry level job with a college degree.

thinking made visible

My hometown was a wonderful (or choose your own adjective) place to grow up.
Laci had a rather eccentric style.
Mr. Brown is the worst teacher I’ve ever had.
The room seemed very institutional.

My hometown was a lush tropical island off the coast of cape cod that is filled with fun things to do.

Laci wore day-glow pink pants with an orange shirt and her jewelry looked like Christmas ornaments.

Mr. Brown came into class everyday smelling of old people and cheap cigars. he didnt teach me a thing.

The room was a vibrant color of yellow, the walls were made of rubber, and there was no way out

rhetorical analysis

The advertisement I chose was a car ad for the Bentley Continental Flying spur. The car is an English made luxury sport sedan that is both fast and carries top of the line luxury. The main focal point of the ad is the luxury sedan flying down a rural highway next to the water. To the right of the car it reads “You won’t even need to speed past other drivers to make them feel inferior.” In the bottom right it has the car manufacturers emblem and the sales pitch ”You drive it because you can.” The car is advertised online because there are not as many dealerships in the U.S.

This advertisement is directed towards the upper-class, such as an executive business man or woman who can afford this pricey luxury sedan. One point the ad portrays with its cocky slogan is that if you buy the Bentley it will show your authority over any other regular person. The statement the ad makes will appeal to a successful person because they will most likely be in the market for a flashy expensive car to show their wealth off. The look of the car in the ad is designed to show off the cars power, speed, and how luxurious it is. When you look at it, it makes you wish you could be driving it. The picture of the car also illustrates its dominance on the road. It gives you a sense of “if I buy this car I will own the roads.” The company slogan is “You drive it because you can.” The slogan states that its brand of car is top of the line so not many people will have enough money to buy it. It is marketing to the people who have an extra $200,000 and they’re saying come buy the car because you have the money that others don’t. The eloquent black font accented with white just brings out the luxurious aspect of the ad. The color scheme is rather plain but it gives you more focus on the look of the car.

In my opinion this Bentley ad could be pretty effective towards the wealthy crowd it is being marketed to. When wealthy people see a car as luxurious is a Bentley in an ad like this they will definitely be tempted to buy one. This ad is so effective because it targets the main reason why a rich person would want to buy an expensive and flashy car, to feel superior to other people who don’t have as much to show for. People with a lot of money like to show it off and what’s a better way to do that than buy a luxury car. Some cons of this ad are that it doesn’t tell you too much about the car besides being luxurious and fast. And it doesn’t market the product to a very broad spectrum of people. There are more and more luxury car brands surfacing so it seems like Bentley would have to do a better job of advertising to keep up with the increasing number of luxury cars coming out.

theme proposal

Business and Economics is the topic that interests me the most. In this day and age America has been in an economic slump that no government officials or elite business men can put and end too. So this is a topic that effects all of us more so than the rest from my point of view. Some sub topics that i could write about are my experiance in entry level jobs and how and why its hard to get a job these days in the first place. Another topic i could touch upon is how our country plunged into the depths of a recession that shows no sign of an end and how it changed all of our ways of life. I could also discribe our countrys economic standpoint compared to some of the other world powers. I could look at how the recession lead many people into debt causing them to lose their property and how it currently effects their lives. I like this topic because it is very broad and i can think of a million ideas off the top of my head to write about.

My second choice would be food. Since i have aspired to be a chef this topic also interests me a lot. i could write about what inspired me to take up cooking and how much better it is to make a home cooked meal than dining out or getting fast food. also i could look at how humanitarians are seeking out an end to world hunger. i could write about different cultures cuisine and how it may be bizarre compared to ours.

forget about recess

At Broadway elementary school, Brandi Parker, a recess coach has stepped in. This is an effort to control the children and get them all involved at recess. Rather then letting the children sit around Brandi gets them into organized games. This was effective because kids were getting into less trouble and they were being less destructive to themselves and others.

Writers Autobiography

Ever since elementary school my teachers have always told me I had an inclination towards writing and literature. When I was younger I always liked writing poetry the best.  I believe poetry is one of the most expressive forms of writing. Although i haven't written poetry in a pretty long time, I freestyle rap all the time. Rapping is very similer to some forms of poetry and just as expressive. I also don't mind researching a topic of interest and writing about that.

Some things I dont enjoy as a writer is fiction where you have to come up with a make believe story off the top of your head. I like the real facts about the world. I also do not read that much. It has been a while since Ive read a book just to read. The last thing i read for my own enjoyment was the harry potter series. So id say i like reading fiction but i dont like writing it. it is best left to the experts. Writing essays isnt quite something i am enthusiastic twords doing but while writing i like to use a lot of detail and discription.
