The advertisement I chose was a car ad for the Bentley Continental Flying spur. The car is an English made luxury sport sedan that is both fast and carries top of the line luxury. The main focal point of the ad is the luxury sedan flying down a rural highway next to the water. To the right of the car it reads “You won’t even need to speed past other drivers to make them feel inferior.” In the bottom right it has the car manufacturers emblem and the sales pitch ”You drive it because you can.” The car is advertised online because there are not as many dealerships in the U.S.
This advertisement is directed towards the upper-class, such as an executive business man or woman who can afford this pricey luxury sedan. One point the ad portrays with its cocky slogan is that if you buy the Bentley it will show your authority over any other regular person. The statement the ad makes will appeal to a successful person because they will most likely be in the market for a flashy expensive car to show their wealth off. The look of the car in the ad is designed to show off the cars power, speed, and how luxurious it is. When you look at it, it makes you wish you could be driving it. The picture of the car also illustrates its dominance on the road. It gives you a sense of “if I buy this car I will own the roads.” The company slogan is “You drive it because you can.” The slogan states that its brand of car is top of the line so not many people will have enough money to buy it. It is marketing to the people who have an extra $200,000 and they’re saying come buy the car because you have the money that others don’t. The eloquent black font accented with white just brings out the luxurious aspect of the ad. The color scheme is rather plain but it gives you more focus on the look of the car.
In my opinion this Bentley ad could be pretty effective towards the wealthy crowd it is being marketed to. When wealthy people see a car as luxurious is a Bentley in an ad like this they will definitely be tempted to buy one. This ad is so effective because it targets the main reason why a rich person would want to buy an expensive and flashy car, to feel superior to other people who don’t have as much to show for. People with a lot of money like to show it off and what’s a better way to do that than buy a luxury car. Some cons of this ad are that it doesn’t tell you too much about the car besides being luxurious and fast. And it doesn’t market the product to a very broad spectrum of people. There are more and more luxury car brands surfacing so it seems like Bentley would have to do a better job of advertising to keep up with the increasing number of luxury cars coming out.
Overall a pretty good job here! Nice use of detail and well-focused paragraphs. Clear, clean writing, for the most part. (Not sure about "eloquent" as an adjective for the script though...)
